Selection of works by students from the University of Sydney, Faculty of Architecture. 2004 - 2005

Dialogue is an exhibition of selected undergraduate and postgraduate award-winning student design work, drawn from the Bachelor of Design (Architecture), Bachelor of Architecture and Master of Urban Design programs, between 2004-2005. The selected projects are expressed through a broad range of media including CAD drawings, models and video.

The range of projects is diverse embracing an array of sites in Sydney, Canberra and Hong Kong. Each one examines the dialogue between the specifics of place, different requirements of program, variables of culture and responses to complex urban conditions.

Taking different approaches, each project has attempted to reconcile the need to create sound architectural solutions and strategies within specific urban contexts.

The display itself reflecting a conscious faculty approach, based on the interaction between the disciplines of architecture and urban design, a cross-fertilization resulting in a far richer dialogue both locally and internationally. The exhibition showcases award winning student work from the past year in the Faculty of Architecture. This is intended as the first of a biennial showcase by which we wish to track the ever-changing culture in our active and vibrant Faculty. Unbuilt works leave little lasting trace unless an attempt is made to curate and document these ephemeral products. This exhibition does just that, identifying and documenting the work (on a biennial basis in the future) in a considered and critical context, thus contributing to the architectural debate in Sydney and allowing alumni and practitioners an insight into the issues we consider to be in need of debate. As a vehicle of reflection and self-criticism, the public presentation of the work will demonstrate what our students are able to do and to what we, as the leading academy of architecture, aspire.
