The Tin Sheds Gallery welcomes proposals for professional exhibitions across a wide variety of contemporary visual practices from individuals and groups, as well as proposals for collaborative or community projects and curated exhibitions. We also welcome architecture proposals. Proposal forms are available from the gallery or can be downloaded from this page.

The Tin Sheds Gallery is part of the art workshops complex within the University of Sydney's Faculty of Architecture-a practical studio based art teaching facility offering courses in various media to students at the university and others. The gallery is essentially an artist-/exhibitor run space that is supported by the Faculty of Architecture.

The exhibition committee of the Tin Sheds Gallery meets once a year to select proposals and is composed of professional practising artists, curators and representatives of the Faculty of Architecture, Design and Planning.

The Tin Sheds Gallery is centrally located on the west side of the inner city on City Rd., a major public transport route. The gallery area is approximately 15 square metres and the floor space which can be divided into 2 distinct spaces. It has approximately 64 linear metres. The 2 large moveable walls are designed to fit between the columns as indicated on the floor plan, but can be arranged in a variety of positions. The floor is raw concrete with an epoxy coating and the walls are constructed of gyprock faced onto MDF board. There is state-of-the-art lighting. Both spaces have natural light. The long narrow space can be blacked out. The gallery has a large up-lit patio at the entrance within the Wilkinson Building courtyard.

The next Exhibition Committee Meeting to review proposals will be held in May 2008. The gallery program is fully booked until early 2009. DEADLINE FOR RECEIVING PROPOSALS: 3OTH APRIL 2008.

Information for exhibitors

The weekly gallery hire fee is:

Solo Exhibition: $200.00 plus GST per week.
Two artists: $200.00 plus GST per week per artist.
Three artists: $160.00 plus GSTper week per artist
Four or more artists: $400 plus GST per week in total.

Exhibitions usually run for 3 weeks.

Artists/Exhibitors are responsible for:

• Mounting and demounting exhibitions and leaving the gallery as it was before the show.
• Printing of invitations
• Purchase and preparation of refreshments for the opening.
• Minding the gallery on a Saturday 11am - 5pm.

The Tin Sheds Gallery will prepare &distribute a press release. Mail out 400 invites including Sydney based galleries and intersate organisations and other art institutions. Place listing in Art Almanac. Publish the exhibition on the Tinsheds website. The gallery charges a 25% commission on sales.
